Paddy Kenny believes a fresh start would help Dele Alli rediscover his lost form and suggested Newcastle United as the ideal destination for the Tottenham star.
Dele Alli’s career has been on a downward spiral since the departure of Mauricio Pochettino. The attacking midfielder has been unable to convince the next set of managers of his qualities, which seems to have convinced Tottenham to let him go at the next available opportunity.
He is already linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with some tipping Alli to join the West Ham United to resurrect his career. At 25, the midfielder certainly has plenty more to offer despite his lack of game time in the last 18 months.
Newcastle are also reportedly linked with a January move, which Paddy Kenny believes to be the ideal solution for him. Speaking to Football Insider, Kenny suggested, Alli could rediscover his spark with a fresh start and that the Magpies should prioritise their pursuit of the midfielder.
Kenny said, “If someone can grab hold of him, then whoever gets him has a sensational player on their hands. Clearly, something isn’t right at Tottenham. I think he’s needed a move for a few years.”
“Alli has to take ownership now, and his future is in his hands. If he wants to stay at Tottenham, then he can go on loan and prove himself. If he wants to cut all ties with the club, then he can do that as well.”
“Sometimes, a fresh start is the best thing for him. I’m am absolutely certain there will be clubs interested in him. The obvious one being Newcastle. I can see them coming in for him. They are one of the few clubs who have money to burn going into January and could sign him soon.”
As Kenny suggests, a move to Newcastle would suit all parties concerned. This transfer has two aspects: Alli’s desire to play more and Newcastle’s urgency to secure quality signings. The only problem here would be the Magpies’ league position, which more or less makes them favourites for the drop.
Considering that, a six-month loan move might be the best possible solution, and Newcastle are prepared to make an offer. Alli could play regularly and get back his match sharpness in that period. That should help him secure a move permanently elsewhere or give his Tottenham career another shot.
