Mick Brown reacts to recent stories linking David Moyes to replace underfire Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.
Mick Brown has been in the news for his many views on the English game, and now he has his say on the situation brewing at Crystal Palace. Oliver Glasner’s position has come under intense pressure following their worst start to a league season, as stories suggest the Eagles could possibly replace him.
David Moyes has emerged as a critical contender for the job, with reports suggesting the former West Ham boss is under significant consideration behind the scenes at Palace. The Scotsman has been out of a role since leaving the Hammers in the summer, where Julen Lopetegui succeeded him.
Moyes’s style of football could contrast with that of Glasner, who earned plenty of praise upon his arrival following a late run last season. He replaced Roy Hodgson at the helm and is now staring at losing his job following a string of bad results.
Former Manchester United chief scout and assistant manager Mick Brown, in his comments on Football Insider, insists Moyes is in the frame for the job and will be ready to succeed Glasner if needed.
Brown said, “David should be in the game and he’d be an asset to any club.”
“With the situation Palace are in, near the bottom of the table, there’s always going to be pressure.
“Whether they sack Glasner or not is a different question, but Moyes is always going to be in line for that job after what he did at West Ham. From what I know, he’d certainly listen to an offer if it did arrive, and then it depends on how much he wants to get back into management – but I don’t think that’ll be an issue.”
“He’s got connections down there too, so Palace are definitely an option for him.”
“I know after he left West Ham he moved back up to around the Blackpool area, away from London.”
“But that doesn’t mean to say he wouldn’t be open to moving back down. He obviously still knows people in the area after his time there. I know he was keen on the Everton job if that had become available, but it looks, for now at least, like Sean Dyche is safe there. “
Palace’s latest defeat came at the hands of Nottingham Forest, as a solitary Chris Wood goal settled the tie. The Eagles are yet to win a game this season, and their latest loss keeps them in the bottom three of the standings.
Unless there’s a big revival between now and the next international break, Palace chiefs might make the hard decision of sacking Glasner. Moyes is ready, although other names will be considered. The former West Ham boss’s vast experience in the Premier League will probably place him higher on their list.
