Barcelona were held to a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Benito Villamarín by Real Betis, thanks to some horrid refereeing and a lacklustre performance from the defending Champions.
Not many fans were happy to see Jeremy Mathieu in the starting XI
I was so happy to see Vidal in the starting XI but after that I found out Mathieu is also starting….. pic.twitter.com/lgLgcYk7bv

Mathieu tries so hard to be a ball-playing CB. Someone please remind him he wouldn’t start under any other coach?
— Sergi Domínguez (@FutbolSergi) January 29, 2017
Please save us from Mathieu! pic.twitter.com/JhgZPFCCUw

SUB OFF MATHIEU TO CHINA @LUISENRIQUE21
— Messi World (@MessiWorId) January 29, 2017
Please why is Enrique so interested in Mathieu? Its either penalty or own goal! ???#Barca #FCB

The Blaugrana were harshly denied their first goal by the ref, after he adjudged it to have not crossed the line. Replays showed that it the ball had comfortably made its way past the goal line by a foot, but with goal-line technology yet to be introduced in the La Liga, Barca had no choice but to get on with the game.
THAT WAS A GOAL

After much pressure, Suarez finally managed to equalise for his side 2 minutes away from the final whistle. The Uruguayan looked as if he could get on the scoresheet once again seconds later, but was denied the opportunity due to a foul.
Luis Suarez has now scored 21 goals in his 28 games for Barcelona across all competitions this season.
Huge equaliser. pic.twitter.com/y6fcCE3hIQ

A raised hand, praying for an off-side call, when there’s nothing humanly possible left to stop Suárez. #RealBetisBarca #FCBlive pic.twitter.com/rKiB8RvLtK

GOAL! Luis Suarez equalises for Barcelona at Real Betis in the 90th minute. Diabolical defending! Justice is done.
— ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) January 29, 2017
There is life, death and Barcelona getting a last minute equaliser! #Barcelona #Suarez

It was the Argentine’s assist, that helped Barcelona snatch a valuable point away from this tie. The 29-year-old has saved them on numerous occasions this season and once again showed how dependent they are been on his magic.
The Barcelona players, staff, manager, owners and club president should donate their legs to Messi when he reaches the age of 33. Justice.
— Enrique. (@SantiClaus) January 29, 2017
Lionel Messi is everything for this team, if it wasn’t for him, we would be fighting for CL spot, Always there, creating, Assisting. Scoring
— NBK was SimplyMessi (@FutboITorres) January 29, 2017
The weight on Messi’s assist. Barely any space between him and Suarez, yet pushes the ball diagonally across a defender into Suarez ????????
— Ledders (@Ledders26) January 29, 2017
Messi fanboys are something else man, they actually think he had a good game
— AE (@_AhmedEzz_) January 29, 2017
La liga is finally over. Rip. Messi made it look as if we were competing but this team is relegation level without Messi
— keval (@BleedBarca) January 29, 2017
Always Ashamed when I see Messi going deep for Barca

Imagine thinking Messi is/was lazy, man’s doing us a lot of good by playing the way he is as he plays every game.
— Barça Lens (@BarcaLens) January 29, 2017
Barca without Messi would be Granada fc tbh.
— This charming fraud (@HughesDarryn) January 29, 2017
The Barca faithful didn’t hold back on their criticism of the referee, with a lot of them accusing him of stealing three points from their side.

I’ll say this again:
Barça SHOULD NOT have to rely on referee decisions to win matches. They should be playing better if they want to win.— Juan (@socraticjuan) January 29, 2017
I don’t wanna hear anything about the referee let’s Focus on play better if we wanna win something at the end of the season ??
— Fit and Fut (@2012Mundo) January 29, 2017
the worst referee ever he can’t see
— umar aliyu (@khalifae20) January 29, 2017
For some reason referee “mistakes” only happen in Barça games & mostly against Barça. Makes one think there’s a “campaign against Barça”.
— Micky (@BusiFCB) January 29, 2017
There’s no correlation between our performance and referee’s mistakes. We were shit. But the ref should do his job.
— Josip (@jperkovic93) January 29, 2017
It’s not similar to the 11/12 season. Many referee mistakes indeed but that season we played exciting football. Can’t say the same now.
— Jamsheed (@JamsheedFCB) January 29, 2017
Can Barça even complain about referee decisions after the Sociedad game at the Anoeta?
— TheCRonaldoFan (@TheCRonaldoFan) January 29, 2017
Bad performances don’t justify bad referee decisions. Referees should make right calls. It’s that simple.
— BarcaBlaugranes (@BlaugranesBarca) January 29, 2017
Would like to know the qualifications necessary to be a referee in La Liga. Shouldn’t be a lot
