Mauricio Pochettino’s hints at PSG move for Manchester United star Paul Pogba

Chelsea have failed with an improved offer to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino has refused to rule out a move for Paul Pogba, who has one year left on his Manchester United deal.

The transfer window seems to be heading towards an explosive conclusion if many of the rumours are true. While some sides are still trying to strengthen their teams, others like Manchester United seem content with their business.

United made Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane their headline summer signings and might have finished with all their incoming business. However, if the rumours over Paul Pogba turn out to be true, it could cause chaos in Old Trafford.

The French World Cup winner has only a year left on his Manchester United deal and a new contract is nowhere near sight. Pogba remains heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain as they have admired the midfielder for some time now. However, the interest cooled off when the Ligue 1 side signed Lionel Messi.

But, with just under 10 days to go before the transfer window shuts, a new development could be brewing in the background. PSG might attempt to sign Pogba during this period, leading Manchester United to search for a new midfield replacement.

It is widely expected of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to keep hold of Pogba this season irrespective of his contractual situation, but things do change all of a sudden. At first, when it was thought PSG might not have any money left after their outlandish transfer business, we may be wrong, and the French side might prepare an offer for Pogba.

The French side has made big-name signings such as Lionel Messi, Gini Wijnaldum, Gigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi and Sergio Ramos. As they aim to win the Champions League this season at all costs, signing Pogba could not be overruled.

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino refused to rule out a move, although hedid not specify whether it was for this window or the next. The Manchester Evening News published quotes from the Argentine manager after the French side’s 4-2 win over Brest.

Pochettino said, “The arrival of a midfielder like Pogba? We know that in football, things can happen, situations turn around. A club like PSG is always open to improving its workforce. A sector where we must strengthen as a priority for me? I won’t say it publicly. Never. I will tell (sporting director) Leonardo first, who will tell our president. If I say so, there will be an earthquake and problems,” he said.

Pogba started the season in an explosive manner, providing four assists in Manchester United’s 5-1 win over Leeds United. He has already laid down the marker over his importance in the team, and it will certainly come as a blow if he is to leave in the next ten days, although a move in this window does seem highly unlikely.
