Marcus Rasford admitted to harbouring doubts over his Manchester United future and thought about leaving before Erik ten Hag’s arrival.

Whether Erik ten Hag has truly rejuvenated and transformed this Manchester United is still debatable. However, recent testimonials from top players suggest the Dutchman certainly has something about him that is taking the club in the right direction.

A season where he took Manchester United back into the Champions League and finished with a Carabao Cup trophy will come as a positive start to life for Ten Hag. He aspires for more, and until now, the summer window has provided more positive moments than in a long time.

One of the key factors has been Marcus Rashford agreeing on a new deal with Manchester United. The potential renewal killed all of the speculation linking the 25-year-old with an exit, although several clubs had been chasing his signature.

Rashford had a stellar season, scoring 30 goals across all competitions for Manchester United and cementing his place as one of the best attackers in the division. However, the forward had links with PSG and reportedly refused a lucrative contract to continue his career at Old Trafford.

Now, the Daily Mail ran comments from the 25-year-old about how he thought about leaving the club after how the 2021-22 season went by. He insisted, Ten Hag was a major factor in his decision to stay, as he looks forward to great achievements with the club.

Rashford said, “Before the manager came maybe a little bit. But it’s football, it happens.”

“Everything is going to happen for a reason and he (Ten Hag) came to the club at the right time for me. The timing worked out. “Now the conversation is a little bit different because I think it’s clear, the manager is very ambitious, and he has been since the minute he stepped in. I didn’t really have doubt in my mind about that.

“I’m hungry to keep improving and the squad and the players and the staff keep improving and getting used to each other, pushing ourselves to be better than we were the year before. That’s the only way we’re going to get back to winning trophies consistently.”

Ten Hag had to change his tactical vision ahead of the season, and reports insisted he would play Rashford predominantly on the left side. For that, he needed a striker, and Manchester United have agreed a deal for Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta to become their starting No.9 ahead of the season.

Rashford will hope to continue with his stellar form, which will have to continue if Manchester United desire to challenge for the Premier League title.
