Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella is open to a potential return to Spanish giants Barcelona this summer.
Marc Cucurella, who is currently away with the Spanish national team for the international break, was asked about his future while speaking to the press. Not only did he open the door to a return to his homeland, but he also admitted that he would consider a return to Barcelona this summer, if offered the chance.
His Chelsea team-mate, Enzo Fernandez, was recently asked about a potential move to Real Madrid. While speaking to an Argentine outlet, he said that he would consider living in the Spanish capital. Referring to Fernandez’s revelation, Cucurella was also questioned by the media.
Cucurella is ready to return to La Liga
He said via Sky Sports, “At the end of the day, Spain is always Spain – it’s my country and where I grew up, and you always think about going back, but I think I’d leave it for a few years.
“I’m very happy there (in England), my family too, and as a life experience, it’s a very good one.
Initially, the 27-year-old left-back suggested that he wasn’t thinking about a potential return to Spain for the next few years, as he and his family are both content in London. He is an integral part of the Chelsea setup and would love to continue at Stamford Bridge.
When asked whether he would consider an immediate move to Barcelona if the opportunity arose, Cucurella added:
“Well, it’s clear that if something like that happens, it’s difficult to turn them down, but I’d have to consider it.
“At the end of the day, it’s not just about me – I’d also have to think about my family, maybe, what’s best for them or for all of us, but as I said before, I’m not thinking about that right now.
“If it happens, it happens, and we’ll see what we decide.”
Cucurella’s rise to prominence
Cucurella is a La Masia product. He was a part of their youth setup from 2012 to 2016. While he did get promoted to their first team, the left-back only made one senior appearance. He spent the majority of his time away on loan before leaving the club for Getafe.
The 27-year-old then made the switch to Brighton in 2021 before joining Chelsea a year later. Over the years, he has been an integral part of the Blues’ first team. In the ongoing campaign, he has been involved in 41 matches and has contributed towards four goals.
While he would still have two years left on his deal this summer, Cucurellas has certainly made his future a massive talking point with his recent comments. Meanwhile, the Catalan giants would be delighted to have someone with his experience in their squad, but the finances involved could make things difficult.
