Manchester United urged to sign Robert Lewandowski

Former England manager Fabio Capello has urged Manchester United to sign Robert Lewandowski to solve their goalscoring problems.

Manchester United’s already difficult season took an unusual turn as they recently struggled against relegation battlers Newcastle United. Without many goals to show on the scorecard, the Red Devils are struggling to stay relevant in the top four race after dropping more points recently.

Despite starting the season in full flow and scoring five goals past Leeds United, Manchester United’s goalscoring ability has come into question. They did make some valuable attacking additions by signing Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, but things have not gone the way they envisaged.

Edinson Cavani has experienced fitness problems, and despite his good record in front of goal, he cannot be trusted to play each week. Marcus Rashard has also experienced a terrible loss in form, all of which has come back to bite the club in their quest to regain some ground in the top four race.

There have been some whispers over a move for Robert Lewandowski, 33, who continues to attract interest from the biggest sides in world football. There have been rumours of an impending exit from Bayern Munich at the end of the season, which could trigger the attention of Premier League sides, including Manchester United.

Former England manager Fabio Capello has now urged Manchester United to move for the Polish striker. He praised the forward during the Globe Soccer Awards as the Bayern frontman was among the winners. Speaking to Sky Italia (h/t Tribal Football), Capello strongly suggested the Red Devils should consider signing the ex-Borussia Dortmund hitman.

He said, “I hope Lewandowski wins. I’m a Messi fan but I would not have voted him. I think the Pole deserves the award. I think he is still the best striker even if Neymar, Haaland, and Mbappe will be his competitors in the future.”

He continued: “Lewa could leave Bayern. I know there are rumors, I would see him do well everywhere, but in the Premier League there is a team that lacks a true centre-forward and it is Manchester United which now uses Cristiano Ronaldo in that position.”

Widely regarded as one of the best strikers of the modern era, Lewandowski will enter the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich in the summer. A move away from Bavaria has been mooted, although for Manchester United to stand a chance of signing him, they must need to qualify for the Champions League next season.
