Manchester United told to sign Arne Slot as Michael Carrick replacement

Manchester United have been urged to appoint former Liverpool boss Arne Slot as a replacement for Michael Carrick.

Manchester United have been urged to appoint former Liverpool manager Arne Slot as Michael Carrick’s replacement, with Dutch football analyst Martijn Krabbendam identifying the Dutchman as a potential solution to the club’s ongoing problems.

Speaking on ESPN’s Voetbalpraat, Krabbendam joined Kenneth Perez and Sjoerd Mossou in criticising United’s current situation, with the analysts questioning the club’s management and ability to return to the top of English football.

Mossou delivered a particularly damning assessment, describing the Red Devils as “the worst-managed club in the world”.

He argued that there had been little improvement since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became involved, pointing to the uncertainty surrounding Erik ten Hag’s departure and subsequent changes behind the scenes.

The journalist also suggested Carrick appeared to sense his position was under threat following United’s 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth. According to Mossou, the manager’s walk past the supporters after the match resembled a farewell, although the fans initially continued to back him.

Perez was similarly critical of United’s recruitment strategy, arguing that the club were spending excessive amounts on players who had failed to meet expectations. He believes the situation has become increasingly damaging for a club with United’s history and ambitions.

Krabbendam believes Arne Slot could help Manchester United

Krabbendam, however, offered a possible solution to their problems by recommending Slot as the next manager. He believes that the former Liverpool boss could help restore order on the pitch.

“They need to bring in Arne Slot. If he wants to go there, they should sack Carrick immediately,” the analyst suggested via Voetbal Primeur.

Carrick initially impressed after taking charge midway through last season, guiding United to a third-place finish in the Premier League and securing their return to the Champions League. His performances earned him the permanent managerial position, but he has struggled to maintain that momentum this term.

Manchester United have won just two of their 12 matches this season and are currently enduring an eight-game winless run. Their poor form has intensified speculation over Carrick’s future, although the club have yet to make a final decision.

The Englishman is expected to remain in charge for the upcoming clash against Chelsea, which could prove crucial to his immediate prospects. Slot, meanwhile, is available after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season.

Appointed in 2024 to succeed Jurgen Klopp, the Dutchman enjoyed an impressive debut campaign by leading the Merseyside club to the Premier League title. His second season proved less successful, but his previous achievements ensure he remains a candidate for a top job.

Whether Manchester United would consider appointing a former Liverpool manager remains uncertain. However, with Carrick under growing pressure ahead of the Chelsea match and Slot currently without a club, the question of who occupies the Old Trafford dugout may soon be resolved.
