Manchester United wanted to sign the Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres during the summer transfer window, and they offered more money for him compared to the London club.
Sporting CP were prepared to sell the player to Manchester United because of a higher transfer offer. However, the striker ended up joining Arsenal in the end.
The assistant of the Swedish International agent has now opened up on the situation and revealed that the Portuguese club were looking to sell the player behind their backs because of the lucrative proposal from Manchester United.
The striker ended up joining Arsenal, and Manchester United have signed Benjamin Sesko instead.
Speaking to the Studio Allsvenskan podcast, Chalkias revealed via MaisFutebol: “Saudi Arabia? Those were sickening figures. They were offering Viktor over 400 million net per season, over a million per day. It’s better if he’s the one to talk about it one day, especially since we didn’t pressure him to accept any offer. At the end of the day, money comes and money goes.
“This move to Arsenal also gave us very good marketing. One of Sporting’s problems is that they tried to negotiate a transfer to Manchester United behind our backs. The deal was done because Manchester United offered a higher transfer fee.”
Can Gyokeres and Sesko make their mark?
Both strikers were outstanding for their respective clubs last season, and they will look to make their mark in the Premier League now. While Gyokeres has a lot of experience and quality, Sesko brings immense potential and explosiveness to the table.
Both attackers will look to make the most of the opportunity handed to them and establish themselves as key players for their respective teams. Arsenal and Manchester United needed reliable strikers at the start of the summer transfer window, and they will be delighted to secure the services of both players. It remains to be seen whether they can recapture their peak form quickly.
Arsenal will hope that the Swedish International can guide them to a major trophy this season, while Manchester United will hope that the Slovenian can fulfil his potential with them and develop into a world-class player for the club.
