Manchester United huffed and puffed, but eventually managed to get the desired result at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City. Going into the game with a plan of frustrating the opponents, Jose Mourinho did just that and settled for a goalless affair on Thursday.
Needless to say, it was the Citizens that had the better of the chances, but they failed to break down a stern United defence. However, they were handed a lifeline late on when Marouane Fellaini let the tempers get the better of him and headbutted Sergio Aguero.
What followed was referee Martin Atkinson showing the Belgian a straight red card. This incident occurred only seconds after Fellaini picked up a yellow card – the first booking in 82 minutes of the Manchester derby.
The fans on Twitter were having none of the midfielder’s actions and held nothing back while expressing their anguish. Take a look:
Plot twist. Fellaini rips off wig to reveal he's Joey Barton

Aguero squared up to Fellaini and put his head in as well but Fellaini is a big, mean, elbow dropping animal. Embarrassing.#MUFC

You know what's funny…
Half way through game I was gonna say Fellaini only seems aggressive in tackles.. He's an angel really…mmm— Vikki (@VikkiLou_mufc) April 27, 2017
Disappointed in Fellaini. Had the chance to proper smash that prick & didn't take it.

Fellaini acted like a clueless dictator.
He will now work from home.

How some of you guys didn't make Pro but Fellaini did baffles me.

That's got to be it for Fellaini. You can't trust him. Absolute liability. And he's not good enough anyway.
— Doc (@Doc_Joshi) April 27, 2017
Fellaini to come out and make a formal apology for ever playing professional football…

Mourinho: "Martial & Shaw are not working hard enough for me. Wenger hasn't won PL since 2004."

Every time Fellaini plays for United they should be charged with bringing the game into disrepute. He's NOT a United type. That was mad

83': Marouane Fellaini gets booked.
84': Marouane Fellaini gets a straight red.Simply can't handle the big games.

I'd actually love Fellaini to come back on and just headbutt the ref. End his career at United and give me some entertainment for once.

Trying to work out how Fellaini is a footballer. pic.twitter.com/Q3TCJe0GyC

Fellaini will be handed a minimum three-match ban, which would see him miss United’s key away game against Arsenal in the month of May.
Fellaini so irresponsible. Let his team down. Fellaini on Aguero, booked, then clipped his heels, then lowered head into Aguero. Off. Daft.
— Henry Winter (@henrywinter) April 27, 2017
Huge blow for Arsenal – Fellaini is out of the game next Sunday.
— Footy Humour (@FootyHumour) April 27, 2017
Don't blame Fellaini. This game has been that bad I'm not surprised he wanted to get off early.
— James Pearce (@JamesPearceEcho) April 27, 2017
Fellaini can't argue with that. Totally stupid. Deserved red card.
