Manchester United 0-2 Cardiff City: Solskjaer’s men end the season in misery [Tweets]

A tumultuous season ended in another game to forget for Manchester United as they were handed a 2-0 loss by Cardiff City at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The hosts provided the threat, chiefly through 17-year-old Mason Greenwood, who was making his full debut for the club. But, Manchester United could never quite manage to find the back of the net in what was another dreadful evening of football.

Neil Etheridge resolutely stood between United and the goal they desperately sought, although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men also had themselves to blame for some poor efforts. The game changing action came on the opposite end, however, as Cardiff opened the scoring through Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, although Diogo Dalot was unfairly penalised for a legal tackle.

The win was rounded off early in the second half, as Mendez-Laing completed his brace after some superb work by Josh Murphy. The result brought an end to Manchester United’s misery, with the Red Devils winning just two of their last 12 games in the season. Invariably, Solskjaer copped a lot of flak, while also being trolled by rival fans.

One player who was singled out for criticism was Marcus Rashford, who was largely ineffective yet again.

But, there was some positive to take from the match, with Mason Greenwood looking dangerous on his full debut for Manchester United, even if he could not get anything from the game.
