David Silva and Gabriel Jesus got on the score-sheet to ensure City kept their end of the bargain to remain within a chance of securing automatic qualification into the UEFA Champions League next season.
It was a tense encounter at the Etihad as Leicester ran Manchester City close before eventually conceding to a 2-1 defeat at the end.
The Citizens looked to be heading on their way to three points courtesy of goals from David Silva and Gabriel Jesus in the space of seven first half minutes. However, Shinji Okazaki’s stunner immediately after that ensured the Foxes remained in the contest with another half of football left to be played.
This game had huge implications on top 4 qualification with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United all closely watching. The three points in the end for the Blues mean that the race remains tight as we approach the business end of the campaign.

Has David Silva ever had a “bad” performance? Whenever he plays his worst, it’s because of the players around him, not his fault. GOAT.

David Silva is running this game. He’s like Messi – there’s no player in the world like him and we’ll need at least 2 to replace him

Gabriel Jesus now has 5 goals and 2 assists in 6 starts (471 mins) & is keeping Sergio Aguero out of the squad at 20, such a special talent.

The game however wasn’t short of controversy with Manchester City’s first goal and Riyad Mahrez’s disallowed penalty leaving the field open for discussion.
Raheem Sterling was supposedly in an off-side position and was looking to affect the field of play while blocking the goal-keeper’s view. The referee however refused to change his decision as City took the lead.
In the 77th minute Riyad Mahrez’s penalty was disallowed because the player took two touches before it reached the goal-keeper and while it was a case of the player slipping, it was the correct decision to cancel the effort according to the rule book.
Drama!
Mahrez converts a penalty… but it is ruled out as he accidentally kicked the ball twice!

Mahrez should’ve got a retake. It’s not his fault he slipped.

Given the wording of the law the referee is correct to disallow Mahrez’s penalty but clearly not what the law was written for. #pedant

Send Bobby Madley to Portugal. If he can spot Mahrez touch the ball twice when taking a pen in real time he can spot Maddie #MCILEI
