Malick Diop claims the time is right for Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh to join a bigger club

Manchester United have received a massive boost in their pursuit of African defensive sensation Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh.

Manchester United are always on the lookout for players who can further bolster their squad. Of late, the Red Devils have started focusing more on young stars with massive potential, and they seem to have identified the top talent in Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh.

Malick Diop on Kinteh switching clubs in the summer

Manchester United consider Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh an ideal fit for their project and are set to step up their pursuit of his signature. They have received significant encouragement from Malick Diop, the president of the Mawade Wade Academy.

While speaking to Africa Foot, Diop said via Sport Witness, “He’s a very athletic lad who anticipates challenges. Being athletic is one thing but knowing how to anticipate challenges puts you at ease. These qualities inevitably make him a difficult defender to handle.

“It’s time for him to leave. There was already interest from clubs during the winter transfer window, but it wasn’t the ideal time for a young player, as there’s already an established squad and it’s not easy to break into the first team. However, the best time is the summer. He’ll have time to adapt and establish himself.”

After coming up the ranks and making a name for himself at Wade Academy, Kinteh made the move to Norway last year. He joined Tromso in March of 2025 and hasn’t looked back since. Not only has he established himself as an integral part of their first team, but the teenager is also widely regarded as one of the best defensive prospects.

Manchester United to step up their pursuit of Kinteh

Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh’s rise has caught the attention of Manchester United, who are looking to build a team for the long run. The Red Devils consider the teenager an ideal fit for their team, and they are ready to make a move this summer. Meanwhile, Wade Academy’s president believes it is the right time for the Gambian wonderkid to join a bigger club.

While he had offers in the winter as well, that was not the right time to move, as clubs have an established squad. However, Diop has suggested that the 19-year-old is now ready to make the jump. The Red Devils are ready to move quickly to ensure they beat the competition to his signature.

Reports suggest club chiefs Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada are set to travel to Norway to scout the African gem personally. Manchester United’s interest certainly looks concrete, and it will be interesting to see if they do manage to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.
