Malaga caused a huge upset last night after defeating the in-form Barcelona by 2 goals to nil. A first-half strike from ex-Barcelona forward Sandro Ramirez and another late goal from Jony Rodriguez was enough to ensure the hosts picked up an important 3 points.
Barcelona had an opportunity to draw level with Real Madrid who had drawn 1-1 with Atletico Madrid earlier on Saturday but made things difficult for themselves, especially after Neymar was sent off in the 65th minute after receiving a second yellow card.
However, even before Neymar’s sending off Barcelona did not particularly trouble the Malaga defense and the hosts definitely ran out the deserving victors. Twitter was understandably amused by Barcelona’s loss with Real Madrid fans in particular ecstatic at the result.

The refs have been atrocious all season but we don’t deserve anything. Alaves, Depor, Malaga twice etc. Biggest bottlejob ever.

Lionel Messi in particular came under fire after failing to make a mark on the match. Many also pointed out that critics of Ronaldo needed to take a look at Messi’s performance on the night as the Argentinian was off his game in a match that Barcelona needed to win, although some also pointed out that he was let down by his teammates.
Hahahahahaha like I said if Messi had Messi infront of him he’d be winning La Liga by January pic.twitter.com/snXvKhxY9s

Real Madrid > Barcelona.
Ronaldo > Messi.
Get over it.

MSN are footballs biggest myth. Messi makes any player around him look world class, has done since 2008

Xavi about Barcelona’s 2-0 loss to Malaga: “Messi can talk to the air better than Cristiano.”

Malaga 0-0 at the Camp Nou without Messi. Malaga 2-0 at home with Messi. Lit

Final scoreline won’t reflect it. He wasn’t able to turn it around. But the performance from Messi is just as historic as many of his others
— Aldo Sainati (@aldosainati) April 8, 2017
How many times has Messi played a killer pass in behind their defence today? How the fuck did we bottle so many is beyond me…

Messi fans were chatting about Ronaldo’s performance earlier but it was much better than what Messi dropped vs Malaga
— Zeus (@KeylorinhoZ) April 8, 2017
Only Messi trying things. Messi freekick to get a point is the only hope now.

Luis Enrique got some stick for yet another disappointing loss as well as his decision to loan out players like Marc Bartra to keep Jeremy Mathieu, who deputised for the suspended Gerard Pique and was roundly criticised for his role in the defeat.
Luis Enrique this season:
Bench Iniesta for an important match.
Start Gomes.
Concede a goal.
Tell Iniesta to warm up. Sub on.
Drop points.— Messi World (@MessiWorId) April 8, 2017
Bartra was sold to keep trash like Mathieu at the club and Sandro shining at Málaga, congratulations to Luis Enrique.

Barcelona lost the Spanish league 16/17 season because of two major reasons 1) LUIS ENRIQUE is a Madrid legend 2) André Gomes is a Cr7 fan
— oluwatobiloba bolaji (@teb24love) April 9, 2017
You sold Bartra to keep Matthieu.
Loaned Samper and Munir for Gomes and Paco.
Thank You Luis Enrique!!!

Greizman basically said tengan zerotes hagecen campeones and Luis Enrique basically said nah we good fam 2nd place is straight

Can’t help but wonder if Luis Enrique makes a conscious effort to sabotage this team on purpose cos I don’t understand
— Bellissima (@t_nemi) April 8, 2017
Mascherano at right back. Gomes and Mathieu both starting together. Thanks Luis Enrique.
