Lucas Torreira’s agent confirms agreement with Valencia

Lucas Torreira’s agent has confirmed an agreement has been reached with Valencia, but Arsenal are yet to receive an official offer from the La Liga side.

Lucas Torreira may have failed to hit the heights expected at Arsenal, but the midfielder continues to attract the attention of clubs across Europe. The Uruguayan would have ideally wanted to continue at Fiorentina after enjoying a solid season on loan, but unfortunately, that move wasn’t meant to be.

Torreira recently confirmed a conversation with Jose Mourinho, which may have hinted at a move to the Italian capital. The midfielder has always shown an inclination to play well in Serie A and might have been open to signing up for a side in the country.

Currently, he is on the pre-season tour with Arsenal to the United States, but realistically he does not have a future under Mikel Arteta. The club would certainly entertain offers around the €15 million fee they had set for Fiorentina earlier but may compromise for slightly less.

There have also been sides interested from Spain, where Torreira spent an ill-fated season at Atletico Madrid. He did win a La Liga medal, but his contributions were sporadic at best.

However, in a drastic change of scenario, Valencia could be the club where Torreira could be playing next season. The La Liga side have agreed on terms with the midfielder, as confirmed by his agent Pablo Bentancur, whose quotes appeared on Fabrizio Romano’s tweet.

Bentancur said, “We have reached an agreement with Valencia; Gattuso wants him. We are going to discuss with Arsenal – Arteta wants to see him in the pre-season. He had great numbers with AFC, but we’ve pre-agreement with Valencia.”

It comes as good news for Arsenal, who have not managed to offload any of their first-team players so far in the window. Torreira is considered someone who could fetch a reasonable price in the market, thus helping the club raise funds and free up space in the squad.

However, the problem could be the fee that Valencia potentially offer for Torreira. Los Che’s financial troubles are well-documented, and Arsenal could end up fielding a similar proposal that Fiorentina put on the table, which was half of the €15 million the Gunners had demanded.
