Liverpool legend Ian Rush has claimed Kylian Mbappe would be a perfect signing for the club, which could also help refresh their attacking options.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail about Liverpool and their attacking options, Liverpool legend Ian Rush, who scored 346 goals in 660 games for the club across two spells, has given his verdict on the future of the current attackers at the club.
While Rush was pleased with the form and players currently playing under Jurgen Klopp, he was particularly happy with the progress of Mohamed Salah. However, the former Liverpool striker insisted the club make smart investments in refreshing the attack when the time is right and chanced upon mentioning Kylian Mbpappe’s name.
Mbappe was at the centre of a transfer stand-off between Real Madrid and his club PSG during the summer. The La Liga side made a massive offer for the French star, which PSG refused to entertain. As things stand, the World Cup winner would be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid in January before moving on a free in the summer.
Rush believes Mbappe would be the perfect addition for Liverpool and should be looked at if Klopp is keen to make necessary investments in new strikers. The Reds currently have Sadio Mane, Salah, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota as their main starters. Except for the Portuguese international, the rest have already at their peak.
Soon the club might look for new options as long-term replacements, and Rush believes Liverpool should try to persuade Mbappe over a move. Some pundits effectively ruled out such a move, firmly believing the Frenchman will end up in Madrid.
Rush said, “I think you look age-wise; Mbappe is absolutely flying. He would suit Liverpool. Haaland is also scoring for fun. But they have to fit into Liverpool’s style of play, and Mbappe would certainly do that.”
“He is improving and will get even better. He plays for the team. You can get an out-and-out goalscorer, but if you don’t provide them, they don’t score, but Mbappe makes goals as well as scoring them.”
Haaland, considering the potential he has shown so far in his career, would be a player who can improve just about any team in the world. Whether Liverpool can beat Real Madrid to his signature or even make a move for the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner remains to be seen.
