Liverpool have been tipped to make a move for West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen, with Noel Whelan believing that the footballer has earned a big move.
Speaking to Football Insider, former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has tipped West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen to sign for Liverpool, claiming that the 25-year-old has earned himself a big transfer.
Whelan has been with Liverpool since January last year, arriving from EFL Championship club Hull City. The Englishman has been a top signing for David Moyes & co., quickly becoming a fixture in the starting XI, delivering goals and assists fairly consistently. To date, he has 14 goals and 19 assists from 80 matches so far.
Bowen has been in fine form in the current season, in particular, helping the Hammers challenge for the top four and achieve progression in the UEFA Europa League as well. He has produced a tally of five goals and nine assists from 27 games, impressing with his speed, directness and versatility.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Bowen for quite some time now due to the fact that both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations next month, while the Reds are also in need of adding some more quality depth to their ranks.
Now, Whelan has tipped the 25-year-old to secure a move to Anfield. Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “The way Jarrod Bowen plays, he’s very much in the mould of Mane or Salah, in terms of how he plays on the shoulder and drives at defences. I think we saw that yesterday with his run and then the inch-perfect pass to Said Benrahma for his goal. He really causes problems when he drives in behind.
“Also, he plays as a number nine for West Ham when Michail Antonio is out – so you know he can fill in there as well. It’s one that would be puzzling to a lot of people but makes real sense when you look at how Liverpool play – just like Jota.
“He’s looking for versatility, and Bowen can really cut it in the Premier League. He’s improved so much under David Moyes at West Ham, but Liverpool could be the next step for him – I can see him there – and it wouldn’t surprise me at all. He’s earned that speculation and that move.”
With Mane and Salah touching their thirties, lining up a new forward to cover for the pair and eventually replace one of them would make sense for Reds. And Bowen, given his form, can be a signing worth considering.
