Liverpool duo Sturridge and Lallana guide England to 3-0 victory over Scotland [Best Tweets]

Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill headers helped a scratchy English side get one over their noisy neighbours Scotland in a 3-0 victory that further cemented the Three Lions’ place at the top of their World Cup Qualifying group.

There was an air of excitement about the occassion. Fierce rivals England and Scotland pitted opposite each other in a World Cup qualifying game on an emotional Armistice Day. However, after the pre-match respects were paid, the game was underway at Wembley with both the sides looking to strengthen their case for a place in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

On an evening when Scotland rued their missed opportunities, it was England who made theirs count as three headers from Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Chelsea’s Gary Cahill settled the tie for the Three Lions. While the win would have done boss Gareth Southgate’s case for a permanent position a world of good, it was yet another scratchy performance that marked the famous victory for the English. The scoreline wasn’t necessarily a fair representation of the game but it’s not like England would care after getting one over their oldest rivals.

Sturridge opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a glancing header off a Kyle Walker cross to fire his side into the lead. Lallana then came up with an equally good headed effort to send the ball past Craig Gordon in goal after a cross from Danny Rose. Cahill then completed the job with a 3rd header off a Wayne Rooney corner to send Wembley ballistic. And it’d be fair to say that the English’s banter game on social media was just as good as they celebrated another victory for Gareth Southgate’s side.
