Liverpool put up a solid attacking performance against Hoffenheim to ensure five English sides in the Champions League group stage for the first time.
The Reds went into this game with a crucial 2-1 lead from the first leg. With relative ease, Liverpool decided the fate of the game in the opening 20 minutes as they slotted in three more goals. Their attack was top-notch as their front-line appeared to be in fiery form.
Despite an otherwise entertaining 6-3 aggregate victory for Liverpool, there were still a few nervous moments. But, combined with the goals and their’s outstanding attacking play, Jurgen Klopp will be extremely pleased with the way his team performed. Their next challenge will depend on the draw for the Champions League, due to happen today.
The German side Hoffenheim, who finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season, did not lose their spirit and chipped in with two goals, but were simply outplayed by Liverpool in the end. However, while their attack was strong, the defence was in shambles. THT takes a look at some of the best tweets that followed:
3.1 up and both teams look like scoring everytime they attack.

How do you get away from the blueprint. Go to Anfield. Sit back. Liverpool start well. Then counter attack them. You will get something.

That Liverpool attack would win the premier league. Their defence however wouldn't win an argument

People bang on about Liverpool's defence, but the attack is top, top class. One of the best in Europe, amazing to watch.

The fans were quick to acknowledge the sheer quality and excellence displayed by Sadio Mane. He was a figure to watch in their first leg against Hoffenheim and also in the Premier League. In fact, most of their successes up front could be attributed to Mane.
I want to thank Sadio Mané's mother, for giving birth to such a beautiful human.

No Liverpool player has been directly involved in more goals (23) since the start of last season than Sadio Mané.

Sadio Mane has truly made the left-side attacking position his own. There is simple no way for Coutinho to play at left wing again. #LFC

Despite the many positives, several fans were still disheartened about their weak defence as they took to Twitter to express their displeasure.

Don't let Liverpool destroying nazi hipsters distract you from the fact that they have a average midfield & defence.
— Loz? (@GiroudoIogy) August 23, 2017
@LFC why have Liverpool not signed anyone else the Liverpool defence is not solid enough to stand a chance i the prem this season sign more!

Can we all take a minute to discuss the disease in Liverpool's defence called Lovren….
— Sadio Mané (@BraTumTum) August 23, 2017
With their shambolic defence Liverpool will still get knocked out at the group stages.
— Musa (@FERGIE_0) August 23, 2017
If Liverpool don't accept Barca's bid for Coutinho so they can sort their defence out they are truly bonkers.
— Charles Watts (@charles_watts) August 23, 2017
Liverpool could be winning 7-1 and I still wouldn't be confident with that absolute shambles of a defence.
