Liverpool continued their winning start to the 2018-19 Premier League season, beating Southampton 3-0 at Anfield on Saturday.
Liverpool cruised to their seventh consecutive victory of the season in all competitions, as they defeated Southampton 3-0, to go to the top of the Premier League standings.
An own goal from Southampton defender Wesley Hoedt just ten minutes into the game put the home side in front before Joel Matip, starting his first game of the season, headed home the second ten minutes later. Star man Mohamed Salah then scored his first goal in three matches, turning the ball home after Xherdan Shaqiri’s free-kick hit the bar.
It was a resounding victory for Liverpool as they set the record of best ever start start to a season in the history of the club. However, the only worry for Klopp came in the form an injury to star defender Virgil van Dijk who had to be replaced just ten minutes into the second half, leaving the fans sweating over the Dutchman’s condition.

However, there was a sense of relief once the former Saints’ defender came out to watch the rest of the game from the bench. Away from Van Dijk’s injury concerns, it was summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri, making his first start of the season for his new club, that stole the show with a dazzling performance before being taken off at half-time, that left a mark on the supporters.

What a MOTM performance from Shaqiri on his first start. Was the catalyst today providing the opening goal via an own goal and unlucky to hit the crossbar with Salah following afterwards. Worked his socks off with a tireless performance with freedom in the first half. pic.twitter.com/NllEPape0d

Xherdan Shaqiri, for £13-million, with those massive calves, that do all these magical things on a football pitch.
Our Xherdan Shaqiri.

Shaqiri’s positioning, awareness and passing range are all elite. More than capable of playing the 10 role on a permanent basis. Filling in for the creativity that we have lacked behind our front three. Two assists so far, perfect full Liverpool debut.

After such a commanding display from the Reds that saw them extend their winning run, the Premier League title talks were always going to make the rounds among the Kop.
