Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Sevilla at Anfield on Wednesday in what was their first Champions League outing since 2014.
The visiting side broke the deadlock just five minutes into the match as Wissam Ben Yedder capitalised on an error from Dejan Lovren to score from close range. From then on out though, Liverpool dominated the proceedings, finally levelling things up in the 21st minute as Roberto Firmino finished off a fine team move.
The Reds then managed to grab a foothold in the match twelve minutes later when Mohamed Salah’s shot was deflected past Sergio Rico. But there was time for one last twist, as Joaquin Correa scored a smart goal to ensure a share of the spoils on the night.
In the end, a lack of conviction and composure in front of the opposition goal proved to be the undoing for Jurgen Klopp and co., who were at the receiving end of fans’ ire in the aftermath of the encounter.
Sick of this If we want to win trophies we need a back four who can stay switched on and deal with seeing out games! #LFC

We knew not buying a defender during summer will cost Liverpool his season. And it’s already proving to be exactly that. #BBCfootball #lfc

On the bright side, only 291 days until Naby Keita comes to save Liverpool pic.twitter.com/j8fQk3bb5R

Well that hurt!
Should have been 5-1, not 2-2. Some bad passing in final 3rd & a missed penalty. Pity.#LFC— Jaka Petric (@JakaPetric) September 13, 2017
Shot ourselves in the foot again. If we are not going to learn from our mistakes then get used to a lot of disappointments again. #Lfc

Tonight proves how far we’ve fallen behind against the elite of Europe. Act like a small club, you’ll become one. #LFC

Basically that was as #LFC as it can be. Lots of chances going forward, gifted a few in the other direction. Disappoining to say the least.

Dejan Lovren was the pick of the bunch for Liverpool fans, as well as the butt of jokes for rivals, after yet another disastrous outing.
Every passing game is showing that Liverpool’s failure to capture Van Dijk was a fatal error.
Dejan Lovren is simply an abomination.

Funny thing is…..
Skrtel > Lovren
Agger > Lovren
Sakho > Lovren
Toure > LovrenNot even joking lads ? #LFC ?

Waited 3 years to see my team return to the Champions League for Lovren to concede in 5 mins and Lovren to concede in the 70th.

Users also took the opportunity to take aim at the Reds after another disappointing outing for them.
