Liverpool 1-0 Brighton & Hove Albion: Reds go top of the pile with a hard-fought win [Best Tweets]

A first-half strike from talisman Mohamed Salah was enough for Liverpool to bag three points against Chris Hughton’s Brighton & Hove Albion.

Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the new season, as they beat a resilient Brighton & Hove Albion outfit 1-0 at Anfield on Saturday.

Halfway through the first period, Salah curled home an exquisite finish from the edge of the box to put the Merseysiders in front. Brighton put in a battling performance, especially in the second half, with Anthony Knockaert and Pascal Gross coming close to leveling things up. But Jurgen Klopp’s men managed to hold them off and protect their narrow lead.

The win meant Liverpool now have three wins from three matches, which sent them to the top of the Premier League table, after reigning champions Manchester City had dropped points against Wolves earlier on the day. And the Reds’ supporters were in jubilant mood as a result, suggesting that the league title was coming to Anfield this season;

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker impressed for the Reds, pulling off an important save from Pascal Gross late in the second period. But a particular moment when he audaciously chipped the ball over an onrushing Brighton player received the loudest of cheers from the Kop.
