La Liga president Javier Tebas has claimed that Real Madrid are in a position to sign both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe in the summer next year.
Speaking at the Sporting Integrity Week event (SIGA), as relayed by Football Espana, La Liga president Javier Tebas has claimed that Real Madrid have the financial power to pull off the double signing of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe in 2022.
Real Madrid were largely reserved in the summer earlier this year, bringing in just David Alaba and Eduardo Camavinga. They did go hard in an attempt to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, only to see their bids get knocked down by the Ligue 1 giants repeatedly.
However, with Mbappe in the last year of his contract, he continues to be firmly on the radars of the club while Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is also eyeing a deal for Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland as well, as he seeks to create a Galactico strikeforce at the Santiago Bernabeu.
And, Tebas has now revealed that Real Madrid’s finances are healthy enough for them to push for the signing of both Haaland and Mbappe while affording their wages as well.
“They have sold over €200m in players. They have money in the bank to sign Mbappe and Haaland together,” he said. “They have not lost money and on top of that, they have sold assets.”
The La Liga president then went on to slam PSG and the lack of rules in place in French football to curb the lavish spending, claiming that it affects the entire European market. “What is not understandable is that a club who loses €400m, has €500m in salary excess, and can reject offers like the one for Mbappe. It is failure in the control rules of France, which has now hurt the European market.”
As iterated earlier, Mbappe will be available on a free transfer in the summer next year, provided he does not sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain. As for Haaland, the 21-year-old will have a release clause of €75 million that will be activated in 2022. It has been claimed that Los Blancos already have an agreement in place to sign the Norwegian.
It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid are able to pull off a deal for one or both of Mbappe and Haaland.
