Karim Adeyemi has spoken about the recent speculation linking him with a possible move to Barcelona, claiming he could play for the Blaugrana one day.
In an interview with the media, as quoted by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Karim Adeyemi has given Barcelona a major boost in his pursuit. The German prodigy has hinted that he could play for the Catalan giants one day, although his agent has shot down rumours linking him with the Blaugrana.
Karim Adeyemi has established himself as one of the most coveted young strikers in the world since he returned to Red Bull Salzburg from sister club FC Liefering. His exploits have not gone unnoticed either, with some of the biggest clubs in the world setting sights on him.
With 18 goals and four assists in 28 appearances across all competitions, the 19-year-old is among the most prolific forwards in Europe this season. So, it is hardly surprising that clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have been heavily linked with him.
The Catalan giants had attempted to sign Adeyemi in 2019, but a move failed to materialise. The interest has not waned since then, with Barcelona reigniting the pursuit to bolster their attack following Sergio Aguero’s health issue, diagnosed as a heart ailment.
As a result, widespread reports have claimed that a January approach could be on the cards. Now, Adeyemi himself has responded to links with Barcelona, claiming it is an honour for him to be pursued by a club like Barcelona.
“Barcelona is a great club, it is a source of pride that they love me and of course I can see myself playing there if given the option. Yes, I know that [Patrick] Kluivert contacted my agent in his day, even though I was not there, but I have not spoken with [Joan] Laporta.”
However, Adeyemi’s agent Thomas Salomon has shot down suggestions of a move to Barcelona, claiming, “A few days ago, we gave a definitive ‘no’ to Barcelona’s proposal for Adeyemi. Barcelona is no longer an option for Karim. The best thing for him is a German club. Barcelona made us a proposal, but they never came to present anything to Salzburg. In two or three years, we will see what can happen.”
Widespread reports have claimed that Adeyemi has rejected Barcelona to join Borussia Dortmund when he leaves Red Bull Salzburg. And following Salomon’s comments, it looks like Barcelona will need to wait to secure the services of the German prodigy.
