Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has revealed that the Reds were interested in signing Dusan Tadic from Southampton.

Dusan Tadic joined Ajax from Southampton in 2018 and he has developed into a top-class player for the Dutch outfit. But Jurgen Klopp revealed to RTL (h/t Football365) that Liverpool wanted to sign him but missed out on the transfer eventually.

The Liverpool boss said, “I love him as a player. I was very angry with myself when he went to Ajax, because I was also interested in him.”

Tadic has been a key player for Ajax since joining the club four years ago. He has scored 98 goals and picked up 94 assists across 210 appearances in all competitions.

Liverpool could definitely use a playmaker like Tadic, who can operate in a number of positions. And the Serb would have been a quality signing for Klopp. The experienced attacker can operate as the number ten as well as a winger. Although he does not possess electric pace, he has the technical ability and agility to make a difference in the final third from a number of positions.

Liverpool are currently crying out for a player who can add creativity and technique in the final third. The likes of Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah could certainly benefit from having a player like Tadic operating behind them. It will be interesting to see whether Liverpool decide to dip into the transfer market to improve their attacking unit during the January transfer window.

Currently, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are sidelined with injuries and Liverpool have had a mediocre season. The Reds have struggled defensively as well as in the attack. The likes of Salah and Nunez have not had ample service, and they are struggling to score consistently.

The Reds are trailing their Premier League rivals in the top-four race, and they will be desperate to get back into the Champions League qualification spots soon. A club of their stature cannot afford to miss out on the premier European competition next season, and finishing in the top four will be the main priority for Klopp right now.

Despite their problems in the Premier League, Liverpool have impressed in the UEFA Champions League. And they have won three of the four group games so far, the latest coincidentally coming against Ajax on Wednesday. The Reds managed to beat Ajax twice in that time and will battle Napoli for the top spot next week.
