Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed that more depth in the squad would have helped the Reds this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t 90min), Jurgen Klopp has revealed that having another player in certain positions would have been ideal for Liverpool.

Liverpool have been plagued with injury problems this season and are currently languishing at eighth on the Premier League table. Their performances have been quite mediocre, and the lack of depth has been a real concern.

“I am not a big believer in looking back, saying ‘if we would have, that would have changed everything’,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

“I think it’s clear that another player in specific positions would have helped us in moments, definitely. But our problems are not because we miss a player.

“You cannot prepare for everything. While it is wild and irrational in moments, I think we have to ride it out. We will get through this.”

Liverpool could still sort out their problems when the January transfer window opens. And it remains to be seen whether Fenway Sports Group are willing to back Klopp with the funds midway through the season.

The Reds desperately need a midfielder, especially with Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita being injury prone. The experienced duo of James Milner and Jordan Henderson have been underwhelming as well.

Liverpool have been linked with Jude Bellingham in recent months, but it seems highly unlikely that Borussia Dortmund will sell a key player midway through the season. The Reds will probably have to wait until the summer for the 19-year-old England international.

Meanwhile, Liverpool could use more depth in the full-back positions as well. Trent Alexander-Arnold has not been at his best this season, but Klopp has had to persist with him due to the lack of options. In the wide areas, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz are the only reliable options. Another winger after the departure of Sadio Mane would have been ideal.

It is imperative for Liverpool to finish in the top four this season and secure Champions League football for next season. Missing out on the premier European competition would mean that they will miss out on their top targets as well. The top players will want to join a club with Champions League football.

FSG must look to support their manager with proper signings in January if Liverpool are to turn things around during the second half of the season.
