Jurgen Klopp hails Luis Diaz performance against Norwich City

Jurgen Klopp has lavished praise on new signing Luis Diaz following his positive impact against Norwich City.

Liverpool’s recent 3-1 victory over Norwich City was a vital one in the context of the Premier League title race. The result helped them bridge the gap at the top to just six points, with the Reds capitalising on Manchester City’s shock defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Although the scoreline may suggest otherwise, it was a tricky game for Liverpool as Norwich City had led early in the second half thanks to a goal from Milot Rashica. The Canaries also looked quite formidable defensively, prompting Jurgen Klopp to make a few changes and even adopting a different formation.

The German ended up bringing on Divock Origi and Thiago Alcantara around the hour mark while shifting to a 4-4-2, with Diaz and Origi spearheading the frontline. It worked wonders for his team as Sadio Mane equalised in the 64th minute before Mohamed Salah scored another three minutes later, handing his team a much-deserved lead.

Speaking to the press after the game, Jurgen Klopp hailed the performance of one player, in particular, in the form of Luis Diaz. “You could see, in the two games Luis had played where he came on or played, he was absolutely incredible but today it was hard work for him as well,” he said, as quoted by LiverpoolECHO.

Diaz indeed played a vital role in Liverpool’s win over Norwich City, notably scoring the third goal to add more gloss to the scoreline.

“It was a tricky one, a tricky encounter. Staying on the pitch staying in the game shows the real quality. We changed system and brought Luis in the centre with Sadio in his natural position. Sadio scored anyway in the centre, and Luis made a wonderful run in the centre as well.”

“It’s good, he’s just an outstanding talent. A really, really good player. You should ask him! I can’t remember my first goal and it was probably really nice! I think he is very happy. He should be!” Klopp added.

The goal against Norwich City was Luis Diaz’s maiden goal for Liverpool after joining the club in a €45 million deal in January. Fans will be hoping it will be the first of many as the Colombian forward looks to play a vital role in the club’s attacking unit in the years to come.
