Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has been criticised heavily for his inability to score goals consistently in the 2024/25 season.
Darwin Nunez has missed plenty of easy opportunities to find the back of the net since his arrival, and he has been criticised for his decision-making and poor finishing. There have been calls for Liverpool to replace him with a more reliable goalscorer, and former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has urged the club to move for Alexander Isak.
The 25-year-old has been exceptional for Newcastle United since joining the club, and he is undoubtedly the best striker in the Premier League right now. He could transform Liverpool in the attack and help them with major trophies. Liverpool are currently fighting for the league title and the Champions League, and they need top-class players at their disposal if they want to continue performing at that level.
Isak is a key player for Newcastle and they are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world. They do not need to sell key players, especially to rivals. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can convince them with a lucrative proposal at the end of the season.
“I’ve seen the rumours saying that you he would love a move to Liverpool as well,” Riise said via Mirror. “Every striker would love to go to Liverpool at the moment when how they play, but I think it would be a great addition to the team.”
“He plays football with a smile on his face, he likes to be creative, he’s quick, he’s very good in front of goal so I think that would be a great signing. If there’s one place I think Liverpool should strengthen or do something in the summer it’s the striker position for sure.”
The former defender went on to explain that Nunez is an important member of the Liverpool squad as well. He is a hard-working player who contributes in more ways than one. However, Liverpool need a specialist goalscorer, who can find the back of the net.
“Sometimes you have players in the team that you love watching and you love having a team and Nunez is one of them. He fights, he works hard, he is that kind of character.”
“So often he gets these chances and you think, ‘Yeah, now he’s going to loosen up now, he’s going score’, but it hasn’t come for him. And so, no matter how much I love his personality and how he plays, Liverpool are a top, top club that need a striker who scores goals on a regular basis.
It will be interesting to see if Liverpool come forward with an offer to sign the Swedish international striker from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window. Convincing the player to join them should not be difficult. They are one of the biggest clubs in the world, but agreeing on a deal with Newcastle could prove to be very complicated.
