Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has lavished praise on teenage sensation Kaide Gordon after his first-team debut for the Reds earlier this week.
Speaking in an interview, as relayed by Goal.com, Liverpool defender Joe Gomez heaped praises on 16-year-old teammate Kaide Gordon after the youngster made his senior bow on Tuesday night.
Gordon, a 16-year-old prodigy signed from EFL Championship club Derby County in the summer, is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the country. A versatile attacking midfielder, the teenager was attracting a lot of interest prior to his switch to Liverpool, with the Reds’ arch-rivals, Manchester United also being keen on signing him up.
Having chosen to sign for the Reds, Gordon has already made a huge impression on the club’s first-team coaching staff, which prompted Jurgen Klopp & co. to hand him his senior debut in the Carabao Cup clash against Norwich City earlier this week. And the 16-year-old enjoyed a bright debut, making a positive impression.
Speaking in the aftermath of the contest, Joe Gomez, who himself had a memorable experience on the night, as he captained the team for the first time, has praised Gordon for his innate ability and the maturity that he has displayed at such a young age.

“The biggest thing about Kaide is that he seems to have such an old head on his shoulders,” he said. “And that level-headed mindset keeps him in his place. His ability speaks for itself, but he’s such a nice guy. In pre-season, he took everything in his stride.
“Every time he trains with us he applies himself properly. He does extra things that wouldn’t even have crossed my mind when I was his age. Hats off to him, and I’m sure he can go on to have a great career. The platform he has, there’s no ceiling to it.”
Klopp’s team have had a number of promising youngsters coming through in recent years. Trent Alexander-Arnold broke into the first-team setup under the German has grown into one of the best players in the country. Then, there are also the likes of Ben Woodburn, Neco Williams, and more recently, Harvey Elliott that have all broken through.
Gordon seems to be the next big thing set to make waves for Liverpool. At 16, the sky is the limit for him and fans will be expecting to see more of the youngster in the cup ties moving forward this season.
