Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara is glad that Spurs did not sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the recently concluded transfer window.
The future of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was uncertain throughout the summer transfer window. Multiple clubs wanted to acquire his services but unfortunately, they couldn’t strike a deal with Tottenham Hotspur for his services. Meanwhile, Jamie O’Hara believes not offloading the 28-year-old could help their cause in the long run.
Hojbjerg made a name for himself in the Premier League while playing for Southampton. After four successful years with the Saints, Tottenham pushed hard for his services, and they ended up securing his signatures in the summer of 2020.
Since signing a £100,000-a-week contract with Tottenham, the 28-year-old has featured in 149 matches and has contributed towards 26 goals. Hojbjerg has been a consistent performer for the London club. Last season, he was involved in 44 matches and racked up close to 3,900 minutes.
He even contributed towards 12 goals. The Danish international was an integral part of their first team until last season. But, a lot has changed over the past few months. The new Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou does not rate the 28-year-old highly. The Australian manager does not consider him to be capable enough to play day in and day out.
In the ongoing season, all three of his Premier League appearances have come off the bench. Hojbjerg is not a big part of Postecoglou’s plans moving ahead into the 2023/24 season. As a result, Spurs were ready to offload the 28-year-old who still has two years left on his deal. Fulham and Atletico Madrid both wanted to acquire his services.
While Hojbjerg was not keen on joining the Cottagers, he was ready to move to Madrid if things went according to plan. But, Atletico and Spurs could npt agree on a deal on the transfer deadline day.
While talking on TalkSPORT, pundit Jamie O’Hara said, “We didn’t sell Hojbjerg. I am really glad we didn’t sell Hojbjerg because I actually think he is still an asset.”
O’Hara believes the 28-year-old could be an asset for them. He has showcased his quality over the years and can prove to be an important player in the long run. He has enough experience of playing in the English top flight and will provide the much-needed depth.
