Jamie Carragher feels Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte might have to drop Hugo Lloris from the starting lineup.
As relayed by this is futbol, Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher urged Antonio Conte to get rid of Hugo Lloris in a bid to revive his side’s fortunes. The French number one has found himself submerged in controversies following his debacles in the last few matches.
The former Lyon shot-stopper has been the preferred choice in between the sticks since his arrival but has shown signs of restlessness and has made a few howlers in a number of games this season,
His mistakes against Newcastle United and Arsenal proved too costly for the team as the North Londoners lost two vital matches on their road to the top four.
This prompted Spurs to look for his potential successor and Everton custodian Jordan Pickford has emerged as his possible replacement. Lloris only signed a new deal in January, but this could be his last season in North London. The 35-year-old will also be Didier Deschamps’s first choice in the World Cup but Carragher believes he doesn’t have the quality which Tottenham needs to end their trophy drought.
“For me – and I’ve thought this for years – I know he’s a World Cup winner; the goalkeeper’s not good enough.
“In terms of getting Tottenham to really challenging, I don’t think he’s good enough.
“I haven’t got a name for you, but if you actually look at what happened with Man City when they brought Ederson in, you see Liverpool when they brought Alisson in.
“He makes too many mistakes.
“I just don’t think right now, Antonio Conte, he’s brought attacking players in – he needs a top centre-back, he needs a top goalkeeper. And the way he plays has proven successful over the years.”
Conte is unlikely to make any changes to his plans and a lot will depend on France’s performances in the World Cup. If the keeper has a much-improved display in Qatar he will continue to be in the scheme of things. But an underwhelming World Cup will surely make things difficult for him.
