Jamie Carragher feels Mohamed Salah could win the Ballon d’Or

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher reckons Mohamed Salah has a great chance of winning the coveted Ballon d’Or.

Liverpool have been flying high in the 2024/25 season under new boss Arne Slot. While many expected the Dutch manager to have a difficult time during his debut campaign with the Merseyside club, he seems to have got his ideas across to the players quite effectively.

The Reds are top of the Premier League as well as the Champions League at the halfway mark and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah has played a massive part in their success. Despite being 32, he seems to be at the top of his games and Jamie Carragher has made a bold claim regarding the former Chelsea winger.

The former Liverpool defender feels the Egyptian international can become only the second African player to win the Ballon d’Or. He has been in sensational form and Carragher reckons he is in line to be crowned the world’s best player.

Carragher said in his latest Telegraph column via the Mirror: “Salah’s goal and assist tally is consistently amazing and there is no bigger admirer of his talent than me, regardless of what his fan club on social media might say,”

“Salah has stated in the past that he wants to become the second African to win the Ballon d’Or after George Weah did so in 1995. I think he has a great chance.”

The Egyptian has talked about his desire of winning the Ballon d’Or in the past and Carragher feels this is his best opportunity to get his hands on the biggest individual trophy in the world of football.

Salah’s incredible numbers

The 46-year-old believes Liverpool will end up winning the Premier League despite strong competition from Chelsea and Arsenal. He reckons Salah will play a massive part in it as he already has 34 goal contributions in his 25 outings across competitions.

He has been on fire in the Premier League with 27 goal contributions in his 17 outings. Salah has been playing some exceptional football. He has been deciding games on his own and is currently amongst the favourites for the next Ballon d’Or.

The Egyptian winger’s future at Liverpool has been a massive talking point as his current deal runs out at the end of the season. While the Reds are keen on extending his stay, they haven’t made any significant progress regarding a new deal.

Salah could choose to walk away as a free agent next summer but for now, he is one of the stars of the Merseyside club and if he carries on in a similar fashion and helps the Reds win a few titles, the 32-year-old could finally fulfil his desire of being declared the best in the world.
