Jack Wilshere heaps praise on Mohamed Salah

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has heaped praise on ‘world’s best’ Mohamed Salah, suggesting he would pick him over Neymar if given a choice.

While the world was embroiled in picking the best player in recent years between Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar, Liverpool’s talisman has been rising consistently to the very top. Mohamed Salah’s numbers this season show a gulf between those stars and the Egyptian, as he leads the Reds by example.

Despite a rare night where he faltered and missed a penalty in Liverpool’s shock loss to Leicester City, Salah has been tremendous in doing everything right in the final third. While scoring goals has always been in his character at Liverpool, the Egyptian has shown a creative outlook this term by also leading the assists charts in the Premier League.

His performances this term include a notable hat-trick against Manchester United at Old Trafford while also going on a record-equalling 15-game run with a goal involvement in each of those Premier League games. Many cannot get enough of praising him, with Jack Wilshere the latest to do so.

The former Arsenal midfielder has had some positive choice of words reserved for the Egyptian. In his recent appearance on talkSPORT, as quoted by Liverpool Echo, he was asked to choose between Salah and Neymar, to which the midfielder said, “Salah”.

“Everyone is talking about him being the best player in the world at this moment, and I agree. The types of goals he scores. The way he runs at defenders. His consistency as well over the last few years is scary. I think he deserves that credit. But Salah for me.”

Salah’s contributions this season for Liverpool have been crucial in keeping them firmly in the title chase and on top of their Champions League group. Their surprising loss to Leicester has left them six points behind Pep Guardiola’s men, and with the Africa Cup of Nations coming next month, it could get much worse for the Reds.

Salah will miss at least two games due to his participation at the continental tournament, and it could be more depending on coronavirus restrictions at the time when AFCON ends. With Sadio Mane also set to join the Egyptian on the African crusade, Liverpool could look thin in forward options.
