Wales and the Republic of Ireland played out a goalless draw that wasn’t short on action in a World Cup qualifying match at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.
Whenever you talk about goalless draws, you don’t expect to associate them with a match that was packed full of incidents to talk about. However, it was also a match that saw Ireland place themselves well to secure qualification for the World Cup, with Welsh hopes hanging by a slim thread.
The major incident saw Seamus Coleman suffer a horrific broken leg following a wild tackle by Neil Taylor, that resulted in the Wales defender being shown a straight red card.

Seamus Coleman received messages of support as he suffered a broken leg that is set to deprive him of action for several months:

I don’t care if Coleman is out for the Merseyside Darby, I’m worried about his career after that horrific injury hope he recovers from that

Red or blue, I’m human, and Seamus Coleman is a quality lad. Sickening to see him and his career potentially ruined instantly.

On the other hand, Neil Taylor was on the receiving end of some serious backlash following his horrible tackle on Coleman:
Chris Coleman: “Neil Taylor is not that type of player”

Neil Taylor with possibly one of the worst challenges I’ve ever seen on Seamus Coleman!#hangingleg pic.twitter.com/iE4A2PI30y

Utterly horrific challenge from Neil Taylor on Seamus Coleman. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Absolute no place for that in the game.
— Liam Canning (@LiamPaulCanning) March 24, 2017
Hate this apologist rubbish in football punditry. Dean Saunders: “Neil Taylor is not that type of player.” He did it so he very clearly is.
— Ewan MacKenna (@EwanMacKenna) March 24, 2017
Neil Taylor hang your head in shame. Deserves to be banned from all football for a long time. An international ban just won’t cut it.
— Scott McAuley (@toshenhoff) March 24, 2017
Blimey the perils of having the same name as a football player!
— Neil Taylor (@neil_taylor_) March 24, 2017
Wish Seamus Coleman a speedy recovery. Neil Taylor deserves a lengthy ban.
— Barry O’ Mahony (@barryomahony4) March 24, 2017
Neil Taylor is honestly one of the worst footballers I’ve ever seen, don’t understand how he keeps dummett out of the team
