Jose Mourinho hits out at critics over his stints at Manchester United and Tottenham as he prepares for a new journey as the manager of AS Roma.
Speaking at his unveiling as the new manager of Serie A club AS Roma, as relayed by Goal.com, Jose Mourinho lashed out at critics over claims that he is not a top manager anymore following his stints at Manchester United and Tottenham.
Mourinho has been sacked from each of his three previous jobs at Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham while a season was going on. The Portuguese tactician has come under a lot of pressure and questions over his methods and ways and failure to evolve with the progression in the game.
Naturally, he was asked by reporters over how he felt about being not considered a top manager in some sections after the way things ended with his recent jobs. And the ex-Manchester United and Tottenham boss came out all guns blazing in defence of his managerial record, while also insisting that he gets treated differently to some other managers in the game.
“I am a victim of everything I have done before. I am victim of how people look at me now, unfortunately. At Manchester United, I won three trophies and it was called a disaster. At Tottenham, after arriving in a tough moment, I reached a final that I was unable to lead the side out in. What is a disaster for me would be an amazing achievement for others,” Mourinho said.

Further elaborating on his response, the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss added: “I have already responded to that: at the last three clubs I have worked for, I won a league title with Chelsea, three trophies with Manchester United, and reached a final that I could not manage in with Tottenham. What is a disaster for me, others have never done in their life. It’s my fault.”
Mourinho’s stock has certainly declined in recent years. Between returning to Chelsea in 2013 to being sacked by Tottenham earlier this year, the Portuguese managed to win just one Premier League title – with the Blues in 2014/15, along with two League Cups (one each with Chelsea and United) and the Europa League with the Red Devils.
However, Mourinho did not win anything after a successful debut season at Old Trafford in 2016/17 before being sacked in 2018. Having replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham in 2019, the Portuguese did lead them to the Carabao Cup final, only to be sacked days before the game against Manchester City at Wembley. It will certainly be interesting to see how he fares at Roma.
