Hugo Lloris iterates desire to leave Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has revealed his desire to leave the North London club at the end of the season.

Hugo Lloris has entered the final year of his contract, and it seems that he is ready to move on in the coming weeks. The French goalkeeper has revealed in an interview that he is open to a different challenge now.

Lloris has been quite mediocre this season, and it makes sense for Tottenham to part ways with him in the summer and sign a quality replacement. The fact that the player is ready to pursue a different adventure will come as a delight to the north London club.

“We are coming to an important moment, for the club or for me,” he said (h/t 90min). “It’s the end of an era. I have desires for other things.

“I will ask myself to study what is possible, but I don’t forget that I still have one year left on my contract with Tottenham and that, in football, it is always difficult to predict what will happen. What is essential at the moment is to recover well from my injury. I’m on holiday but I continue to talk and do my training. My goal is to recover in July, then we’ll see what the future holds for me.”

The 2018 World Cup winner has cost this side valuable points this season, and he is simply not good enough to start for them every week. Tottenham have been linked with goalkeepers like David Raya and Andre Onana in recent weeks. It will be interesting to see if they can sign a reliable number one in the coming weeks now.

Lloris is still a useful player for mid-table clubs. But Tottenham need to aim higher if they want to get back into the Champions League and compete for major trophies. The veteran shot-stopper has been linked with the return to France, and it remains to be seen where he ends up.

There is no doubt that the former French international has been a loyal servant for Tottenham while being one of the best keepers in the world for a long time. However, he is clearly past his peak. So a move away from the Premier League would be ideal for him as well.

Tottenham have had a disappointing season, and they need to plug the weaknesses in their squad in order to do well next season. Signing a new goalkeeper should be one of their top priorities. The north London club are yet to appoint a permanent replacement for Antonio Conte, and it is fair to assume that any signings will only happen after a new manager is in place.

They have been linked with a number of managers in recent weeks. But they are yet to finalise an appointment. Former midfielder Ryan Mason is currently the interim manager at the club. In addition to that, Tottenham are looking for a sporting director to replace Fabio Paratici as well.
