England Under-21 star Harvey Elliott has urged Mohamed Salah to stay at Liverpool for the rest of his career.
Mohamed Salah was the talk of the town towards the end of the transfer window. The 31-year-old Liverpool star was a marquee target for Saudi Pro League club Al Ittihad. But, they failed to strike a deal for his services before the transfer window in the Middle East ended.
However, they are expected to return for his services in the near future. And, he could end up leaving the club. Amidst uncertainty over the Egypt international’s future, his club teammate Harvey Elliott has urged the 31-year-old to stay at Anfield for the rest of his career.
The 20-year-old sensation wants Salah to continue at Liverpool for years to come. Elliott was full of praise for him and even talked about how he wants to keep learning from the former AS Roma star.
Elliott said via 90min: “Touch wood, he doesn’t ever leave,”
“But, if he does go, then I want to be that person to learn from him and apply it in my game. Hopefully, he’s here for the rest of his career. I will do my best [to keep him] but to be just learning from him and in the same team as him, is just a dream come true as well as everyone else in the team.
“We see it all, week in, week out. Mo is an absolutely unbelievable player as well as an unbelievable guy and he’s got that finishing ability and that creative ability as well. You can always count on him.
“Mo’s creativity is absolutely out of this world and I don’t think people appreciate it as much as they should. I think from the public eye it might be a surprise because he is known for his goals, so like I said his creativity is up there with some of the best in the world. He’s so hard to play against.
“He has eyes all over the place and I do try and ask him…I am close to him in that sense, so I do try and work as close to him as possible, to learn. Learning from the best, it’s exactly that.”
The 20-year-old Liverpool midfielder talked about how Salah doesn’t get the kind of credit he deserves. He believes the 31-year-old is amongst the best in the world when it comes to creativity. While he might be known for his goals, he is equally good at creating chances and getting assists.
Elliott is keen on learning more from the 31-year-old and is looking to do his best to keep Salah at the club. Meanwhile, Salah has been a key member of the Liverpool team that has won almost every trophy under the leadership of Jurgen Klopp.
The Egypt international has been in sensational form since joining the Premier League. He has never scored fewer than 19 goals in an English top-flight season since arriving in 2017. The former Roma winger has been involved in 310 matches for the Merseyside club and he has contributed towards 271 goals.
He has got off to a great start in the 2023-24 season. Salah has featured in five Premier League games and he already has six goal contributions. While he is still at the peak of his powers and has almost two years left on his deal at Liverpool, the 31-year-old could still end up leaving Europe.
As per reports, he was ready to join the Saudi Pro League club but a deal couldn’t be struck. However, things could end up differently in the upcoming transfer window as Al Ittihad were ready to break the transfer world record, currently £200m, for the 31-year-old.
They are expected to return for his services in the winter and Liverpool might end up accepting a world-record bid. However, Harvey Elliott is keen on having the Egypt international at Liverpool and has urged him to stay at the club for the rest of his career.
