Giorgi Mamardashvili opens up on Manchester United, Tottenham interest

Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has opened up on his future amid speculations linking him with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking in an interview with Plaza Deportiva (h/t Sport Witness), Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has insisted that he is happy with the La Liga club amid reported interest from Premier League giants Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Mamardashvili joined Valencia last summer from Dinamo Tbilisi in his homeland of Georgia. Having moved on loan initially, the 21-year-old was signed permanently in January, as he signed a contract with the La Liga side until 2024.

In his short time with Los Che, Mamardashvili has made 21 appearances, keeping nine clean sheets while letting in 22 goals. Despite his lack of experience, two of the biggest clubs in England in the form of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Georgian shot-stopper.

Manchester United are on the lookout for a new deputy for David de Gea as Dean Henderson has joined Nottingham Forest on loan for the upcoming season. It has led them to monitor Mamardashvili as an option.

Tottenham have extended the contract of Hugo Lloris and have brought in Fraser Forster as cover for the Frenchman. But with both goalkeepers in the twilight of their careers, Spurs could be looking at Mamardashvili as an option for the future.

The 21-year-old has now opened up on the speculations linking him with a transfer to England, stating that he is aware of what is being written in the media, but is happy to continue at Valencia.

“I see it but now the first thing is Valencia. Then we’ll see. It is very important for me to be happy and I am happy, I like the team, I like the city,” Mamardashvili said. “I have a 2+1 contract with Valencia and I’m happy. I really like Valencia as a city, I like the people,” the Georgian international went on to add.

It is unlikely that Tottenham might make a move for the Valencia ace this summer. However, Manchester United could explore the possibility of a transfer, although they are looking at other potential options as well.
