Getafe director confirms interest in Real Madrid star Borja Mayoral

Getafe director Ruben Reyes has confirmed that the club are interested in Borja Mayoral and are working on a deal to sign him up.

Getafe director Ruben Reyes has confirmed that the La Liga giants are plotting a raid on reigning champions Real Madrid for the signing of striker Borja Mayoral in the ongoing transfer window.

Mayoral is back at Real Madrid after spending the last couple of seasons away on loan. Having joined AS Roma on a temporary deal in 2020, the striker spent 18 months in the Italian capital but moved to Getafe for the second half of the last campaign after having struggled for game-time under Jose Mourinho in Italy.

Mayoral made a solid impression during his time in Getafe, bagging six goals and an assist in 18 matches across all competitions. And manager Quique Sanchez Flores is keen on signing him up on a permanent transfer. Recent reports had indicated that a transfer was close to completion, and now, Ruben Reyes has let out details of their interest, stating that they are working towards signing the Spanish striker.

“We are working on signings. I have said for a long time that the market was going to be long. You will all know that Borja has done a great job, we all like him. I think that several attacking players have to arrive. Time will show the capacity that we have to finish making that template,” he said, as quoted by MARCA.

When pushed about what was holding up the Mayoral deal, Reyes added: “We still need to close the deal or reach an agreement. We are working and talking about situations are things that are not going to make anything easier. It is work, it is what we have to do now. We are excited about what may come.”

Mayoral’s agent, however, recently insisted that the striker wants to stay at Real Madrid and fight for his place. But, as per the latest reports, the La Liga champions have seemingly reached an agreement with Getafe to offload the 25-year-old Spanish striker, which makes sense considering that he was in the final year of his contract with Los Blancos.
