Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Arsenal can win the Premier League title this season.
On the Talksport show, Gabriel Agbonlahor insisted that he feels Arsenal are here to win the coveted Premier League title at last. The Gunners notched up their 12th win against Wolves in the top flight as they will now resume their top flight battle at the top in December.
The Gunners have not shown any restraint to slow down and Mikel Arteta’s well oiled machine has been on a winning spree since their minor blip against Manchester United back in September.
They defied the odds with wins against Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United already and could be ready for a real showdown when they take on Manchester City after the interval.
It had become evident that the North Londoners would eventually lose their advantage as they have done in past but they will remain the table toppers this time in Christmas. City’s loss against Brentford opened a gap of five points between the top two teams and only a World Cup break could disrupt their momentum.
Players will need time to freshen up and a long and tiring World Cup will only drain up their energies. But former Villa forward Agbionlahor thinks the Gunners are the frontrunner to lift the title this time.
“Yes, they can [win the Premier League]”
“I feel that, we’ve been doing this show since the start of the season and every week, everyone’s been saying, ‘Oh, they’ll bottle it next week, it’s only 7 games, it’s only 8 games, it’s only 10 games, you can’t look at the table yet.”
“They’ve played 13 games and if they win tonight [before Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Wolves], it’ll be 14 games, same as Manchester City and they’ll be 5 points clear. And like you [Jamie O’Hara] said to me just, last season against Manchester City, they were hard done by in the game at the Emirates.”
Both City and Newcastle United are likely to step up on the gas after the World Cup while the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United too are waiting in the wings for a potential slipup of their opponents.
