Frenkie de Jong has pledged his commitment to Barcelona, insisting he is ready to stay put at Camp Nou for as long as possible.

In an interview with Dutch TV network Ziggo Sport, as quoted by Goal, Frenkie de Jong has spoken up about his future at Barcelona. The Dutch midfielder pledged his commitment to Barcelona, insisting he would love to play for the Blaugrana for as long as possible.

Frenkie de Jong spent his formative years in his homeland, particularly growing in prominence during his memorable stint with Ajax. And after a few glittering years with the Dutch outfit’s first team, the 24-year-old earned a big move to Barcelona in July 2019.

Since moving to Barcelona, de Jong has gone from strength to strength, arguably being their most consistent performer among players who are still at the club, even as the team as a whole has blown hot and cold. To date, the Dutch international, a key figure for club and country, has turned out 128 times for Barcelona, chipping in with 13 goals and 16 assists in the process.

There was a time when de Jong seemed to be facing an uncertain future at Barcelona, especially when his performance levels dipped in the initial days of Xavi Hernandez’s reign at Barcelona. But his father always maintained that the player was going nowhere.

Widespread reports also claimed that de Jong was unwilling to call it quits at Barcelona, even as speculation around his future started mounting. After grafting along in those difficult days, the 24-year-old has once again established himself as a pivotal figure for Barcelona, producing several clutch performances. And after another influential display earlier this week against Galatasaray, de Jong has pledged his commitment to the Blaugrana.

In an interview with Ziggo Sport (h/t Goal), de Jong said, “I love being at Barcelona. I’d probably sign a six-year contract extension if they’d propose me, yes. Something happening with FC Bayern? No, no. I am so happy at Barcelona and I would love to play here for as long as possible.”

Frenkie de Jong’s contract still has over four years left to run out, and a contract renewal offer might not be forthcoming just yet, especially with Barcelona already having a lot on their plate. But if he continues on his upward trajectory, it will not be surprising to see the Dutch international stay put at Barcelona for the better part of the next decade.
