An early Phil Jagielka goal condemned Arsenal to a narrow defeat at Goodison Park which also dealt a blow to their top four hopes.
Arsenal lost ground to other rivals in the top four race after suffering in yet another away game, this time to Everton. The Toffees, apart from an early goal by Phil Jagielka, were also the better side throughout 90 minutes. The result meant Arsenal were unable to take back the third spot from Tottenham and raised some serious doubts over their top four credentials.
The Gunners looked weak in every position against Everton, with only Bernd Leno performing well. Arsenal’s defenders, midfielders and attackers all lost their respective battles and ensured a lacklustre performance.
In particular, fans were keen to point out several things in the aftermath of Arsenal’s defeat, including their thoughts on Mesut Ozil, who was sorely ineffective on the day and was accused of going invisible in the final third. There were some words of choice for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
#mkhitaryan was so awful, I don't Kwn y the boss started him #arsenal

.@Arsenal These are the kind of games you expect our so called technical leader #Ozil to make the difference but as usual goes missing! I really dont care all his disciples can come at me

If it’s true Mkhitaryan is on £200k a week I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a player give less value for money.

Meanwhile, the #Ozil fanboys weigh in. He was the captain today. He is our highest-paid player. And he did absolutely nothing today to help us win. Yes, the entire team sucked. Emery sucked. But Ozil, in particular, sucked. #EVEARS

The main focus, however, was Arsenal and what looked like a chance to get a grip on the top four race, something that the side missed out. Defenders and midfielders were those who came in for scrutiny.

Based on our shocking away form and the fact that most of our remaining games are away, we will not finish in the top four #arsenal
