Erik ten Hag slams Jamie Redknapp for Marcus Rashford claim

Erik ten Hag has slammed Jamie Redknapp for his recent comments on Marcus Rashford and his position at Manchester United.

Responding to recent speculation surrounding his relationship with Marcus Rashford, Erik ten Hag has hit out at Jamie Redknapp regarding the pundit’s recent comments. The Manchester United manager has insisted that the English international remains a critical member of the first-team squad at Old Trafford.

The Dutch manager said (via Daily Mirror), “I heard already speculation from some pundits – that’s crazy. I would almost say as a person you are not OK when you bring such speculation if you don’t know what’s up. This is just rotation.”

“And we have many games to cover and we can only start 11 players, but we have to give all the players – if they perform – the chances and finally, of course, we will find out the players who perform better and they will play more.”

Marcus Rashford has had to battle hard to regain his form in the last 12 months. There was no stopping the Englishman in Erik ten Hag’s debut season as the Manchester United manager. The 26-year-old scored goals for fun and enjoyed the productive campaign of his senior career. However, a switch has turned off since then.

Rashford was a pale shadow of his best in the 2023/24 season, and the first few games of the new campaign suggested the continuation of the pattern. However, the English international has found the back of the net in his last two starts. He scored in the win over Southampton before netting a brace against Barnsley in the EFL Cup earlier this week.

With Marcus Rashford gradually returning to his best, Jamie Redknapp’s comments are bizarre, and Erik ten Hag has rightly hit back at the pundit. Recent reports have linked the Englishman with several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Manchester City. While a move to the Etihad will not see the light of day, the 26-year-old will aim to prove his naysayers wrong.

The English international has three goals and one assist in five appearances thus far for Manchester City. He should improve on those numbers to help Manchester United remain in contention for multiple trophies in the 2024/25 season.
