Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has reacted to United being linked with Gareth Southgate as his potential replacement.
Erik ten Hag had an impressive start to life at Old Trafford but the ongoing season hasn’t gone according to plan for him at his team. As a result, his future at Manchester United has been the talk of the town.
Erik Ten Hag’s future at Manchester United
The Dutch manager was recently asked about the Red Devils being linked with England boss Grathe Southgate and his response suggested he is not worried about his job.
Ten Hag took charge ahead of the 2022/23 season. In his very first season in charge, United won the EFL Cup and finished inside the top four. While they are in contention for a top-four spot, the Red Devils haven’t been able to build on last season’s performances.
The new part owners are not really impressed with what they have seen from Erik ten Hag and unless there is a major turnaround in the final phase of the season, they could push to bring in a new manager ahead of next season.
Manchester United linked with Gareth Southgate
England boss Gareth Southgate might not have done a lot of managerial work at club level but he has been in charge of the England national team since the summer of 2016. They might not have won a major tournament under his guidance but the national team has played some quality football.
His contract with the national team runs out at the end of the season and United are considering appointing him as their next boss. Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag was recently asked about his future at the club on the back of United being linked with the 53-year-old.
The former Ajax boss said via FussballTransfers: “At Manchester United there will always be noise and rumors around the club, the team, the manager and the players, but we don’t care about that.“
Ten Hag doesn’t seem to be worried about his job despite all the talk around him. He is focused on the task at hand as United look to finish the season on a high. He feels there will also be pressure on you if you manage or play for United. So, he is not bothered about what is happening around him. His only focus is to ensure the Red Devils have Champions League football for next season.
