Erik ten Hag believes his Manchester United can beat any team in the world following their win over Liverpool in the FA Cup.
Manchester United have managed to book their place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup thanks to an epic win over Liverpool in the quarter-finals. A lot was riding on this game for Erik ten Hag and his team, and they have managed to pull off something incredible.
Erik ten Hag and his future under new owners
Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United has been uncertain for a while now as the team have not been able to reach the levels they did last season. While they are sixth in the Premier League and can still qualify for the Champions League if things go their way, the Red Devils have been far from their best.
They are one of the lowest-scoring teams in the English top flight, and reports suggested that getting knocked out of the FA Cup at the hands of Liverpool could have cost ten Hag his job. While that could still happen at the end of the season with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS looking to continue their rebuild, for now, this win will give United a lot of confidence for the remainder of the fixtures this season.
Manchester United’s best performance of the season?
Ten Hag was quite impressed with his team as they got off to a great start and played some of their best football in the first 35 minutes of the game. They were a goal up heading into the break but just towards the end, things took a turn as the Merseyside club scored twice.
Everyone expected Jurgen Klopp’s men to go on and seal the win. But, they failed to convert their chances and eventually, Antony who has had a horror season so far equalised in the 87th minute. Harvey Elliott did give the Reds the lead in extra time, but United scored twice to seal an exceptional win. Amad Diallo’s injury-time winner was the difference between the two teams.
Ten Hag believes his team can defeat anyone
On the back of this win, Ten Hag was all praises for his team. He said the first 35 minutes of the match was some of the best football they have played throughout the season. The Dutch manager even said that the manner in which they defeated Liverpool suggests they can defeat any team.
Ten Hag after the win via Sky Sports, “I think that if we can beat Liverpool the way we did, we can beat anyone.”
He praised the attitude and the mentality of his players as they took risks to come out on top here. Ten Hag went all out attack in the end to win the game and it was quite clear by the fact that towards the end of extra time, his back four were Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, and Antony.
