Turkish prodigy Emre Demir has opened up about sealing his move to Barcelona, revealing he had indescribable feelings when the transfer was announced.
Speaking to local media, as quoted by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Emre Demir has revealed his and his family’s delight at securing the move to Barcelona. The Turkish prodigy has iterated that he had indescribable feeling when the transfer was confirmed and that his father even cried.
Emre Demir is a prodigious young talent from Turkey, who has been hyped as the next big thing in his country ever since he made his first-team bow for Kayserispor in 2019, aged just 15. Still just 17 years old, the youngster has gone on to amass 31 appearances for the Anatolian Star while chipping in with three goals and an assist in the process.
Primarily an attacking midfielder, Demir can also play on either win equally adeptly, meaning he is not one dimensional in his style of play either. And his performances over the last couple of years generated so much hype that some of the biggest clubs in Europe set their sights on him, with Barcelona being chief among his suitors.
The Catalan giants have now won the race to sign him, having reached an agreement to secure his services on a five-year deal, beginning from next summer. And now, Demir has opened up on sealing the move to Barcelona and also revealed how his family felt when the transfer was announced.
Demir said, “When the transfer took place, my father was very emotional and cried. I had indescribable feelings. My father also dreamed of this. We were together day and night for a year. My representative Ahmet Bulut did not inform me about the negotiation with Barcelona. He called me one day and said: ‘We are going to Istanbul, you are going to sign a great team.'”
“As he was not old enough to sign a contract, they also came my mother and my father. Then I saw the name of Barcelona in the contract. Mom and dad could not hold back the tears. My father left his job at Mersin and came to Kayseri for me. He had a new job with the opportunities offered by the club, Kayserispor. He supported me a lot for my development.”
Demir has joined Barcelona at the perfect time as one of the knock-on effects of their financial woes is their increasing dependence on youngsters, with Gavi and Nico Gonzalez being promoted from the youth setup while Yusuf Demir has also been fast-tracked to the first-team setup. So, there is a good chance Emre Demir gets a run in the senior side as well, when he eventually arrives at Camp Nou.
