Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has insisted that he is focused on his project at the Tyneside club amid his links with Manchester United.
Speaking in his latest press conference, as relayed by Sky Sports, Eddie Howe responded to speculation linking him with the Manchester United job. The Newcastle United manager reiterated his commitment to the Tyneside outfit, suggesting “nothing will change” with his situation at St. James’ Park.
Howe said, “Nothing has changed from my perspective. I’m 100 per cent here, working as hard as I can, head down, ignoring all the stuff you guys [media] write – good or bad – because it’s irrelevant. It’s about today’s work and trying to prepare the team as best we can for Leeds. That will never change, from my perspective.”
“With my commitment to my work and my job, as long as I’m happy and able to express myself in the best way I can to help the team, nothing will change. As I said, the most important thing for me is happiness in the role, the relationships I have with the people around me. That’s not always been consistently good and things can change at any football club, but at the moment, I’m very happy.”
Eddie Howe has established himself as one of the best managers in the Premier League since joining Newcastle United in November 2021. The Amersham native spent most of his professional career with Bournemouth and rose in prominence in the managerial sphere during his two spells with the Cherries.
However, the 48-year-old Englishman has seen his stock skyrocket during his stint with Newcastle United, particularly after helping the Magpies end their trophy drought this year. Howe has also twice guided the Tyneside club to the UEFA Champions League, and his exploits have piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs.
Recent reports have linked Eddie Howe with Manchester United after they sacked Ruben Amorim earlier this week. Since then, the Red Devils have been scouring the managerial market for a long-term replacement, and several candidates have emerged on their wishlist.
Howe is a viable target for Manchester United, as he has shown in his career thus far that he can instil an identity in the team he coaches while scaling the heights of the Premier League table. However, with the 48-year-old Englishman committed to Newcastle United, the Red Devils must look elsewhere.
The Premier League bigwigs have no shortage of candidates on their wishlist, and it will be interesting to see who they turn to after parting ways with Amorim. As for Howe, the English tactician will hope to resurrect Newcastle United’s Premier League campaign after stuttering in the first half of the 2025/26 season.
