The Hungarian midfielder has cast further doubt on his future at Liverpool, claiming that the decision is not in his hands and that there is no progress in contract talks. However, Szboszlai loves playing for Liverpool, and he would be open to staying if the right offer comes along.
The midfielder said (h/t Sky Sports), “Nothing yet, to be honest [on a contract extension]. From now on… it is not in my hands. It works this way. There is no progression but if the right offer comes then let’s see.
“Let’s see what happens, hopefully everyone will be happy at the end. Of course [I want to stay]. I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds. It is not on me. I would love to [stay]. We will see.”
Liverpool must keep Szoboszlai
It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can convince the 25-year-old to sign a new deal. Szoboszlai is one of the best midfielders in the league, and losing him would be a huge blow for the club. The player is at the peak of his career, and he could play his best football in the coming season.
Liverpool will not want to lose him at this stage of his career. They should offer him a lucrative contract and ensure that he signs a new deal with them.
