Dimitar Berbatov tips Manchester United to sell Donny van de Beek

Dimitar Berbatov stated Donny van de Beek looks lost and is running out of time to save his Manchester United career.

Donny van de Beek signed for Manchester United last year amid much fanfare and had huge expectations hanging around his shoulders. After nearly five successful seasons with Ajax, the Dutch midfielder was expected to make the grade at Old Trafford.

However, he has found life difficult in the Premier League after failing to break into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side last season, and the trend seems to have continued this term as well. He was handed a rare start against Young Boys, was unfortunate again to be subbed off early after Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s red card.

In the summer, there were plenty of speculations regarding his future, with Solskjaer himself suggesting things might change for the Dutchman. However, after several key transfers in the summer and the form of players ahead of him, it is difficult to see him beyond a bit-part role.

Manchester United even blocked a late move to Everton as the player gave his nod for the deal to play regularly. Other sides were willing to take the Dutchman away from Old Trafford, but Solskjaer remained adamant about keeping him in his squad.

His agent, Guido Albers, even slammed Manchester United for their treatment of van de Beek. More games on the bench or a lack of playing time would make the Dutchman consider his options seriously, either in January or next summer.

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov spoke to BetFair and laid upon the Van de Beek situation at length. The Metro pushed quotes from the Bulgarian as he suggested the midfielder’s future at Old Trafford might be at risk.

Berbatov said, ‘Donny van de Beek looks lost. The midfielder is running out of time to save his United career. He started against Young Boys but was substituted at half-time. This has been the story of his time at the club. If he plays, he’s brought off. If he comes on, he gets 10 minutes. He never gets the chance to settle and show what he can do.

‘It’s just not working out for Van de Beek. It’s a pity because United paid big money for him. But this is what happens when you spend money just to satisfy your fans. I still hope he gets a proper chance, but it is going to be very difficult for him, and the club may decide to cut their losses if they can.’

If van de Bekk decides to leave, there will be plenty of interest in him, especially from Premier League clubs. From how things look, there’s less evidence Solskjaer will afford regular opportunities for the midfielder. The Dutchman could come under the scanner with questions regarding his future as the season wears on, and we’ll see what transpires of his situation.
