Dean Huijsen warned against Real Madrid move

Former member of Malaga’s coaching staff Juan Gutierrez has warned Dean Huijsen against moving to Real Madrid, fearing for the defender’s career.

Dean Huijsen has seen his stature rise in the footballing world, as some top-notch performances in the Premier League have already resulted in a maiden Spanish call-up. The defender chose to represent Spain, as he could have also played for his nation of birth, the Netherlands, against whom he made his international debut in the most recent international break.

The bigger credit should be reserved for Bournemouth, who snapped the defender last summer from Juventus, as he did not have a future in Turin. At the Premier League side, he has become a mainstay in Andoni Iraola’s side and has earned massive praise for his performances since.

The defender has a lot of suitors already in a short space of time, with Liverpool one of those vying for his signature, as they are ramping up efforts to sign him. The big factor in the chase is the defender’s reported £50 million release clause at Bournemouth which will be active in the close season.

However, the big issue for Liverpool and many other Premier League suitors comes in the form of Real Madrid, who are trying to sign Huijsen and Milos Kerkez ahead of next summer. The Spanish giants are eager to bring the £50 million-rated Liverpool target and may have an advantage in the race as they are keen to bring a Spanish international to their squad.

Many reports have stated that Huijsen might be open to joining Real Madrid over Premier League sides, as the defender seems destined to leave Bournemouth this season. Huijsen began his footballing days back in Spain with Malaga’s youth setup, and one of the coaches there in Juan Gutierrez has now warned the defender from joining Real Madrid.

Gutierrez’s comments that appeared in The Sun suggested that the former coach feels Huijsen might put his development at risk if he were to sign for Real Madrid at this stage of his career. He also insisted that the defender must stay put with Bournemouth for another year under Iraola.

Gutierrez said, “Dean is going to be a leader no matter where he goes, so I hope whoever signs him they play him as a starter, and he’s not a project for the future. He is a player for now.

“There are very few like that at his age, which is why I don’t know to what extent it would be a good option to sign for Real.

“No one can guarantee you’ll play because of your pretty face but if he leaves Bournemouth, it shouldn’t be to sit on the bench.“At Madrid, Eder Militao is 27 and Antonio Rudiger is in his second youth.

“Those two are untouchable and a recovered David Alaba would also be ahead of him. “But maybe staying at Bournemouth with Andoni Iraola for another year is the best option.”

Gutierrez was on the coaching staff at Malaga when Huijsen arrived as a ten-year-old, and having gone through a different route through Italy, he could be back in Spain with Real Madrid. However, his comments on the situation at Real Madrid and how it could affect Huijsen’s career may make sense.
